How to give thoughtfully this holiday season

Dec 09, 2020

Here are our 5 tips for giving thoughtfully this holiday season, so you can give better gifts with less waste and less hassle.

1. Less ‘stuff’

Who needs more stuff?! In Australia this Christmas, an estimated $400 million worth of unwanted gifts will be under the tree. So consider giving one great gift from the gang that will really be appreciated instead of individual gifts. And maybe let your friend decide with a GroupTogether AnyCard (their choice of eGift Card).

Organise it online with GroupTogether.com

2. Support local

Lots of Aussie businesses have had a tough year, so whether it’s the gifts under the tree or the food for Christmas lunch – buy local first.
  1. GroupTogether for gourmet products and ready to cook meals from CoLab Pantry in Melbourne (coming soon to GroupTogether).
  2. Send a crate of Australian cherries from Snowgoose.
  3. Give your friend a special night out at the best restaurants and cafes nearby with a Good Food eGift Card.

3. Give an experienceGift box opening

Who wouldn’t want to receive a pamper treatment or weekend away? With restrictions lifting across the country, it’s the perfect gift this holiday season. How? Get everyone to chip in with GroupTogether, then gift a RedBalloon voucher or use it to buy an experience.
  1. GroupTogether for a private yoga by the sea session at Bondi Beach.
  2. Get the gang together and give an unforgettable gift of swimming with the dolphins at Mornington Peninsula.
  3. Give the foodie in your life a gin and rum distillery tour, tastings and two course lunch in Northern NSW.

4. Handmade cards and wrapCard with love heart

Wrapping paper is a huge contributor to gifting waste, and the equivalent of 50,000 trees will be used for gift wrapping in Australia this festive season. Get creative with alternatives like scarves or fabrics (like muslin wraps) that can be reused, newspaper tied with string and native sprigs or find a supplier of recycled paper.

5. Donate to charity

Did you know you can donate a portion of your group gift collection to charity? We do the heavy lifting. Choose to give between 0-100% in honour of your friend. You can add any charity you like. If it’s an Australian registered charity, we’ll send the donation portion to the charity, organise an introduction and the tax receipts to be sent to each donor.

It feels good all round. Create a group gift collection
