It can’t possibly be December can it? I just can’t wrap my mind around that thought. Someone told me that time is like a toilet roll (how profound, I scoffed to myself). The older you get, the closer to the end of the roll you are, the faster it goes (OMG – that is so true! I take my scoffing back.)
I confess, I am not prepared for December. The madness of it all: end of school assemblies, prize givings, thank you presentations, work holiday parties, friends holiday parties, Christmas, Boxing Day, New Years and the who-in-their-right-mind-has-a-child-at-this-time-of-year-and-throws-a-party birthday party parties. Honestly, who isn’t going mad right now?
So my desk looks like it belongs on one of those World’s Worst Hoarders shows (I LOVE those shows! The voyeurism, the cringe factor, the smugness that comes from being able to say “well, at least I’m not that bad.”). Add to that, the fact that I am not an office clutter savant that can pluck an invoice from a teetering tower of to-be-filed-later bills, documents and notices, and, voila! welcome to my end of year madness.
Is your end of year like mine? Trying to tie off all those loose ends so that you can enjoy a blissful holiday on some exotic beach without a care in the world (or at least imagining it?). And to get to this nirvana, all I need to do is tick off all the items on my check list. Easy, right?
Let’s see. Pay bills (tick) After all I will need to go shopping in Nirvana, it would be too embarrassing to have my credit card denied! Filing bills (hmmm..let’s get back to that one). Turn in kids’ sports kits (tick), arrange gift for the coach (not quite a tick – will get to that soon). End of year assemblies for children 1, 2 & 3 (tick) -Okay, that’s a bit of a lie – I made it to 2 of them, the third I just managed to slip in at the very end. Thank you gift for the teacher (not quite a tick – add that to my to do list). Christmas gifts for family. No tick, but it is only the beginning of December! Holiday cards…let’s just chuck this and send everyone a lovely SMS message. (tick – did that just now).
Phew, done & dusted. Only thank you gifts, friends birthdays, office parties, Christmas shopping, and holiday planning to go. Pfffft! Easy. Phuket here I come…oh I still have to book that.
How is the end of your year shaping up?
